About us

Per Vole and his wife Anne Wangen opened Galdhøpiggen Summer Ski Center in 1986. In the beginning there were only two mobile ski lifts, which were replaced with a T-bar ski lift in 1987. They got electricity in 1988.

The Ski Center gained popularity quickly, and a café was added to the cabin in 1989 to accommodate the guests.

There were heavy snowfalls during this period, and the winter of 1994 destroyed parts of the café. A new café was built in 1995, on a more elevated spot than before.

Further expansions of the Center took place in 2004, with a new turning station and a longer lift trajectory. The lift was placed in the middle of the slopes to improve capacity and provide more varied training grounds for the professional skiers.

The climate changed over time. The summers got warmer and the winters provided little snowfall, which lead to unsafe summer snow. During the years following 2006 we have invested heavily in snow production. Every winter we work with snow production in order to be prepared for the summer. High-quality snow is the most important product of a summer ski center, and we wish to give our guests the best conditions possible.

Per Vole left Galdhøpiggen Summer Ski Center in the hands of his children, Per Arne and Silje, in 2017.

The Staff

Galdhøpiggen Summer Ski Center, or JUVASS, is now owned by Silje Stee Vole and Per Arne Vole. They run the Center together with their partners Vidar Stee and Anja Smedsmo.

In 2018 you will meet Ola Teigen and Erik Aurmo as snowmobile drivers and maintainers of the slopes. Stine Beathe og Randi Marit Teigen work in the café, and together with Andrea Lidal Røysum they make sure there's always something warm to drink or a bite to eat in the café.
